Ecodesign & Labelling
The Ecodesign Directive provides consistent EU-wide rules for improving the environmental performance of energy-related products. It sets out minimum mandatory requirements for the energy efficiency of these products, which helps prevent creation of barriers to trade, improve product quality and environmental protection. This Directive seeks to achieve a high level of protection for the environment by reducing the potential environmental impact of energy-related products, which will ultimately be beneficial to consumers and other end-users. Improving the energy and resource efficiency of products contributes to the security of the energy supply and to the reduction of the demand on natural resources, which are preconditions of sound economic activity and therefore of sustainable development.
The Energy Labelling Regulation can complement these requirements with mandatory labelling requirements.
‘Ecodesign’ means the integration of environmental aspects into product design with the aim of improving the environmental performance of the product throughout its whole life cycle.
